THE LATEST WITH APPLE: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW APPLE PRODUCTS

In case you missed it, Apple revealed their newest product lineup last week during their event held at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino. Here’s everything you need to know.

During the two-hour event last Tuesday, Apple revealed details about the health-focused Series 5 Apple Watch, an improved iPad, and the new iPhone 11 lineup. While this year’s event wasn’t full of exciting news and surprises, there have been some significant upgrades to their existing product line. Here’s what we learned about their newest hardware.

There are 3 new iPhones

After much anticipation, Apple finally revealed their new baseline iPhone model – the iPhone 11. Like its predecessor, the iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch display, but the new model features a dual lens camera that offers wide and ultra-wide modes for both photos and videos. The front-facing camera has a new slow-motion feature, which Apple has named the “Slofie”. While the name may not stick, we think this feature will be a hit, giving users a fun alternative to the classic selfie. The iPhone 11 offers 26 hours of battery life, and its starting price of $699 makes it cheaper and more accessible than previous models.

Apple has also released the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, marketed as a higher end version of the iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch OLED screen and the iPhone 11 Pro Max features a 6.5-inch OLED screen. These two models have a triple camera system with wide and ultra-wide modes, plus a telephoto lens for extra zoom. Together they offer “pro photography” performance. Improved design and materials make these iPhones more scratch and water resistant than ever before, while improved battery life and faster charging will keep you worry free all day long. Available on September 20, the iPhone 11 Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at $1099. All three models will run on Apple’s A13 Bionic chip, which they say is the fastest processor in any smartphone in the world.

Apple Watch

The new Apple Watch Series 5 is the first device from the company to have an always on display. This is made possible with the creation of new screen technology that makes it more power-efficient so the screen can stay on without draining the battery. Gone are the days of having to raise your wrist or tap the screen – now wearers can take a glimpse without raising a finger. Apple is promising 18 hours of battery life on the Series 5, which is similar to previous models.

Additional new features make this watch the most health-focused watch to date. From monitoring your heart rate to noise level alerts and fitness tracking, this watch has the capability to help you live a healthier life. The Apple Watch Series 5 will come in a variety of new colors and materials, including titanium and white ceramic. It will be available on September 20, and starts at $399 for the non-cellular models.

iPad

The seventh generation iPad is upon us. The new iPad is larger than its predecessor with a 10.2-inch retina display. For the first time, the iPad has a Smart Connector port so users can attach a keyboard and use it like a notebook. It will run on the recently announced iPadOS which includes intuitive multitasking and features that make it more powerful, fun and productive. The seventh generation iPad starts at $329 for consumers and $299 for education customers.

Final Thoughts

This year’s event didn’t exactly have the “wow” factor that we typically hope to see. While the performance and technology upgrades are impressive, they are also expected. The camera features, especially on the iPhone 11 Pro, are definitely enticing, but we aren’t sure if they justify the “Pro” title. Regardless, we are excited to get our hands on these products and test them out for ourselves.
