Tampa, Fla.-  (Dec. 2, 2013) – Ever since they graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in 1990s Jody Haneke and Jason Rivers have made regular visits back to their alma mater to mentor and guide students and share insights on their ever-changing profession.  Last month, Haneke and Rivers participated in the latest Portfolio Review Day organized by the student chapter of AIGA and the chairman of the Graphic and Advertising Design Departments, Bernard Canniffe.

“I love meeting students at events like this and always marvel at their talent and curiosity,” said Haneke.  “The three students whose portfolios I reviewed responded really well to my critiques, asked lots of great questions about how to improve their work, and were deeply interested in learning more about trends and opportunities for graphic designers.”

“These reviews are a great way for us as employers to get a look at the talent coming up and help us identify future prospective hires as well,” Rivers added.

The Portfolio Review Day took place on the Ringling College campus in Sarasota on November 11 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Several other local design firms and interactive agencies participated as well, so the students received a broad spectrum of guidance from professionals all around the Tampa Bay region.

“It’s always wonderful to have industry professionals generously share their time with our students and give them feedback that will truly help them improve their skills,” said Canniffe.  “But it’s even more special when the people giving feedback are Ringling grads like Jody and Jason. Our students can see for themselves how successful those who’ve graduated before them have become.  That really inspires them.”
